We are bringing Windows to spatial computing.
We are at a transformative moment in time where work can happen anywhere, and our productivity experience is no longer limited to 2D screens. At Microsoft, I design and lead the prototyping of spatial interactions for Windows in MR, helping lay the foundation for desktop applications and operating-system-level experiences in mixed reality devices.
We teased Windows Volumetric Apps at Microsoft Build 2024. With a simple API, the largest 3D productivity ecosystem can extend seamlessly into 3D space, addressing one of the biggest pain points of today and envisioning a spatial Windows experience of tomorrow. For example, PTC's Creo leverages this API to project live-synced 3D models into mixed reality in under a day. We're extremely excited about the future of the Windows in spatial computing.
At Microsoft Ignite 2024, we shipped Windows Mixed Reality Link on Meta Quest, a seamless connection between Quest and local or cloud Windows 11 PCs. You can stream up to 3 monitors and multitask between Windows and Quest apps. Placing 2D monitors in 3D space is our first step towards extending Windows to the third dimension. We don’t take away the productivity brought by the keyboard and mouse, but add the ability to seamlessly switch to hand and controllers to interact with mixed reality experiences.
Previously, we showed a glimpse of what we've been working on at Meta Connect 2023.
